London Photo Walk, Black and White, Part 2
Along Robustly Populated Oxford Street, Past Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland, and On To Buckingham Palace
What a contrast between Regent’s Park and Oxford Street! From relative tranquility to festive mayhem! As mentioned in Part 1 of this London Photo Walk, the day after Christmas, Boxing Day, in London is hustle and bustle on top of hustle and bustle! Christmas decorations are still up and people are out in force on the streets of London.
On this leg of the journey, I arrived on Oxford Street, one of the pre-eminent—and most populated—shopping areas in London. But, exactly because of the crowds, this area also provides some of the best people-watching in the city, too. (And, although I didn’t have one today, my favorite souvlaki stand is here, too! Souvlaki is a flat bread filled with lettuce and tomatoes, some people include onions, and tzatziki sauce, and I have mine with grilled chicken. You could also have it with halloumi cheese. And, the best part is they serve french fries with it and put them inside the wrap! Yes, you read that right.)
After some great people watching on Oxford Street with my 50mm lens, it was on to Hyde Park, my favorite park in all the world, where the annual Winter Wonderland, though soon to depart, was still going strong. Then I angled left toward Hyde Park Corner and the Wellington Arch and headed toward the Thames, walking through Green Park, past Buckingham Palace, then through St. Jame’s Park, which is where we’ll stop for today.
I hope you have a sense of walking along with me. Who knows? Maybe one day you will!
(A simple map of my route can be found at the end of this letter.)
I absolutely love b/w photos! Maybe I can thank my mom, who did free-lance photography for a season when I was young; she taught me a few tricks. And I’d like to think I have an artistic eye. Thoroughly enjoyed “walking” with you through London. I would love to do it in person as well one day.
