The Golden Gate Bridge from the Marin Headlands

Our first stop on our "Golden Gate Bridge From All Kinds of Angles" Tour

Introduction

For views, views, views of the Golden Gate Bridge, it’s hard to beat the Marin Headlands. On the only clear day for at least a week, I went out and, mostly, the views were stupendous. The only glitch was that at the top of Hawk Hill, a “Visitor Improvement Project” was underway (I’m still wondering how they’re improving visitors up there) so we couldn’t walk all the way up to see what is reportedly the best view of the bridge from the Headlands.

But that was really okay because what’s another trillion to a trillionaire?

There is no bad view of the bridge from the Headlands. And every visitor becomes rich for the experience.

For the intro-introduction, there’s info in Monday’s post:

Can You Guess the Bird?

We have our next bird! He just sat there and posed for me!

300mm f/5.6 1/320 sec. ISO 200
200mm f/5.6 1/320 sec ISO 200
300mm f/5.6 1/320 sec. ISO 160

I’ll give you a hint: Its taxonomic designation is a Callipepla californica.

And its collective noun is covey.

It’s very common in coastal chaparral-type habitat and often seen along roadsides or field edges in small groups…er…coveys.

Right! It’s the California quail!

Next Week

I initially thought this exploration of the Golden Gate Bridge would be three posts: one from the north side of the bridge, one from the bridge itself as we walked across, and then another from the south side of the bridge in San Francisco. But, during my time in the Marin Headlands, I realized that there are at least a few more vantage points that I’d like to investigate so we’ll indeed have views of the Bridge from “all kinds of angles”!

So, we’ll stay on the north side one more week and look at the bridge from directly underneath it and on the northeast side from Fort Baker.
