Love this Renate! Hard to believe there was nothing in the National Gallery in London, but I guess the Palm Sunday scenes are not dramatic enough for most artists LOL

Personally, my favorite from this post is Jesus Wept. I am always drawn to the lesser celebrated scenes and the ones that are most relatable.

BTW, fabulous idea to give yourself a theme! I am borrowing that from you. We should meet up and explore themes together!

And, also, thank you for sharing your favorite of the artworks shown. I am fast becoming enamored of Tissot and his evocative works. In his collection at the Brooklyn Museum, he seems to feel as you do in that he pays attention to those "lesser celebrated scenes" and gives them voice. He's an unexpected gift resulting from the absence of mid-Holy Week works at the National Gallery London.

Oh, YES we should! That is my idea of fun right there! Maybe in Poland? Maybe in Krakow and elsewhere? Maybe at the Brooklyn Museum and Tissot’s watercolours of The Life of Christ? (That's where "Jesus Wept" is housed with Tissot's other works, I have learned.) I am so looking forward to that time with you, my friend. Yes, let’s!

Hey, this is great!

Apparently with a recent update of the app, my feed was all out of order, but I figured it out. Now I see you’ve been posting for Holy Week—thank you. The pieces you’ve found and included are lovely. I don’t recall if I’ve ever seen any of those works before. I am also surprised you had to search so much for a Palm Sunday depiction!

Thank you also for including that spot from The Chosen. I haven’t kept up with that series. (Though I just found a series on King David that I’m watching on Prime. It’s really good and it’s called House of David.)

Now that my feed is back in order, I can keep up with your posts. So happy to see my notifications when you post an entry! 🤗🤗

Thank you, thank you, Christy! Your comments always light me up! I was surprised too that Palm Sunday was not more well-represented at the Gallery but was really awed by the bronze panel of the Baptistery North Doors of the Triumphal Entry. Such detail in a bronze sculpture. So much awe reignited...

I plan to return to "The Chosen" soon. My daughter and I stopped mid-season 4, I think, and have planned to return to it when we could watch it together but that's not easy and I may go on without her!

A couple weeks ago, I was at my brother's and sister-in-law's dog sitting and was curious about "The House of David" series and ended up binge-watching the whole thing! It is powerful and encouraging. It is also very violent, though not horribly gory, and I wouldn't recommend it for children.

Thank you for YOUR encouragement of ME. I love you, sister.

I think Tissot’s “Jesus Wept” is my personal favorite! The head in the hands…. Very emotionally evocative.
