I’ve passed Mammoth Cave several times in my treks north to south, but never had the opportunity to stop. This was a nice introduction. What is the mnemonic way to remember stalagmites vs stalagtites?
Perhaps I'll meet you there one day! I MUST see those caves and explore more above ground, too! Much to my chagrin, I thought I'd made up a mnemonic to remember the difference between stalagmites and stalactites, but then learned that the very same mnemonic had been used for years. Ah, well...
Think of the "G" in stalaGmites as telling us they originate from the "Ground" and the "C" in stalaCtites letting us know they come from the "Ceiling."
Can't believe you have to make reservations so far in advance! We went there about 10 years ago and just got in. It is well worth the wait though. An amazing experience and such a beautiful area.
